Hi. My name is Andrea van der Kuil.

 

I'm from Johannesburg, South Africa, and currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

I am an award-winning theatre designer, textile artist, and writer.

​

In 2015 I graduated with a BA Performing and Visual Arts from the University of Witwatersrand.

​

In 2022 I graduated with an MA Performance Practices from ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, Netherlands.

​​

When I'm not stabbing a piece of fabric over and over again to create an embroidery artwork that often also includes smaller pieces of fabric, beads, and other alternative materials, I'm diving into a world created by a script writer and imagining up what their characters wore and what their world looked like. 

​

When I'm floating in the world of academia, my artistic practice focuses on textile design, durational performance, and the concepts of labour and women’s work in relation to domestic craft.
